DOG DAYS CAMP partners with Marin County’s finest dog trainers, and meets with local dog rescuers, Golden Gate Parks Conservancy staff and others, to get out on the trails and find out what's involved in choosing the right trails for a hike with your dog, how to walk dogs, and all of the etiquette involved with sharing the trails with wildlife and other people and their pets. Our goal is to keep the trails open for our furry friends by creating good stewards of the land and responsible dog owners.
Campers don’t need to have or bring their own dog. We share all of the campers’ dogs at camp, so all campers will have a chance to walk one or more dogs every day. Camper families apply for their dogs to attend through a screening process developed by our dog training expert. Once the dog has been approved, campers can bring their own dog to camp at least one day per week.
In the past we’ve worked with trainers Michelle Stern, Ally Stoops, Tricia Breen, Trish King, Rebecca Bradford, and Kathleen Burke.
We’ll also begin to understand the natural history of the coyotes that are our neighbors through meeting with wildlife experts, how to coexist peacefully with them and tips for keeping our furry friends safe from these majestic creatures who are helping to keep rats at bay. We’ll do some litter clean ups along the way. No van transportation this week, we will meet in convenient locations in or near Mill Valley.
Many families use this camp as a way to figure out whether their kids and family are “dog ready!”
