SOUTHERN MARIN (Drop off/Pick up at various trailheads in Mill Valley, Corte Madera, Tiburon)
This week features adventures in geocaching, the world’s largest treasure hunt, in some of the most beautiful places in Southern Marin. Campers love working together to use the Geocaching app to find caches filled with treasure as they discover the natural world where the caches are hidden. Campers will become familiar with using both a manual and digital compass as part of the fun. We’ll also try out bird, bug and plant identification apps and learn to collect data about the plants and animals that live in our area and learn what being a “community scientist” means. We’ll use iNaturalist to help gather data for several ongoing local research projects and learn what a bioblitz is and how campers and their families can participate. Campers will also learn to use AllTrails to learn how to plan your family’s next hike. We provide all of the technology needed for this week but campers can bring their phones or tablets (must be connected to a 4G or 5G network) equipped with the apps we’ll use if they wish. DOG DAYS™
$550/wk (full day)
MILL VALLEY (Drop off/Pick up at various trailheads in Mill Valley)
Partnering with Marin County’s finest dog trainers, and meeting with local dog rescuers, Golden Gate Parks Conservancy staff and others,
we'll get out on the trails and find out what's involved in choosing the right trails for a hike with your dog, how to walk dogs, and all of the etiquette involved with sharing the trails with wildlife and other people and their pets.  Our goal is to keep the trails open for our furry friends by creating good stewards of the land and responsible dog owners. Campers can but don’t need to have their own dog or bring their own dog to camp at least once this week after passing a simple screening process developing by our dog training expert.  In the past we’ve worked with trainers Michelle Stern, Ally Stoops, Tricia Breen, Trish King and Rebecca Bradford. We share the dogs at camp, so all campers will have a chance to walk a dog every day.

We’ll also begin to understand the natural history of the coyotes that are our neighbors through meeting with wildlife experts, how to coexist peacefully with them and tips for keeping our furry friends safe from these majestic creatures who are helping to keep rats at bay. We’ll do some litter clean ups along the way. No van transportation this week, we will meet in convenient locations in or near Mill Valley.

Many families use this camp as a way to figure out whether their kids and family are “dog ready!”
