This week we will examine the geometry of trees, the adaptations to growing in shade and to an annually wet and dry climate in looking for solutions to human problems.  The angles of tree limbs and leaf positions provide us with useful information.  Fish, fungi and salamanders will also teach us their strategies for life that we can potentially draw upon in our model-making activity.  We'll visit the Coast Redwood forest of Muir Woods, Bishop Pine forest of Point Reyes' Inverness Ridge, the oak woodlands of Mount Burdell Open Space, the Eucalyptus forest of the Mill Valley coastal hills and the Monterey Cypress forest of the Presidio looking for inspiration.  Hikes, games, hands-on experimentation and data collection, and drawing will make up a good portion of our week.  Other highlights will be harnessed tree climbing with expert arborist Joe Sikelianos of Urban Arborist SF and slacklining.  DROP OFF/PICK UP:  Mill Valley Middle School Skate Park
