SPRING BREAK MARINE BIOLOGY TRIP (ages 8-14)

For Two Age Groups - Grades 3-5 & Grades 6-8

This week we will camp out in tents in the spectacular Carmel Valley and spend our days tidepooling various spots along the coast that are rich with marine life such as Bluefish Cove, Point Lobos, Pacific Grove, Monterey and Moss Landing, whalewatching outside of Monterey Bay, and kayaking in Elkhorn Slough.  Campers will learn much about both marine vertebrates and invertebrates this week, including seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins, porpoises, sea otters and fish, sponges, anemones, sea stars, bivalves, snails and more.  We will also have a focused tour of the Monterey Aquarium as well as service work with local marine-oriented advocacy organizations.

Proposed Itinerary:

Sunday, April 9:  Depart Marin at 2PM

DAY 1 - Monday, April 10:  

Tidepooling at Point Lobos.  Camp Fire & Night Hike

DAY 2 - Tuesday, April 11:  

Kayaking on Elkhorn Slough.  Camp Fire & Star Gazing

DAY 3 - Wednesday, April 12:

Tidepooling in Pacific Grove.  Camp Fire & Scary Storytelling

DAY 4 - Thursday, April 13:

Whalewatching near Monterey Bay.  Camp Fire & Owling

DAY 5 - Friday, April 14: 

Monterey Aquarium with a focus on Sea Otters.  Return to Marin by 6PM
