Marin GreenPlay Camp is proud to introduce our guides for Summer of 2016!  They have been selected based on their love of and experience working with kids and their passion for nature and adventure.  Our senior guides also have an extensive background in the native plants and animals of the Bay Area and are avid naturalists.  All Marin GreenPlay Guides are certified in first aid and CPR and are familiar with the application of EpiPens and Auvi-Qs.  Every guide has been background checked and fingerprinted.  Guides receive comprehensive training on our locations, activities, and safety protocols.  All of our guides have flawless driving records and have received training on how to drive a 12 passenger van.  They can't wait to meet your kids!

CAMP GUIDE - MELISSA WITTE IS A VETERAN GREENPLAY GUIDE.  SHE IS AN AVID BIRDER, BACKPACKER, ORGANIC GARDENER, AND SELF-DESCRIBED JILL-OF-ALL-TRADES. SHE HAS WORKED AS A FIELD BIOLOGIST, GARDENING TEACHER, AND NATURALIST, AND RECENTLY EARNED HER CREDENTIAL TO TEACH HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE, AS WELL AS A MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION, AND TEACHES IN PETALUMA. HER WORK AS A FIELD BIOLOGIST INCLUDES MONITORING PIPING PLOVERS & SEA TURTLE NESTS, BANDING SONGBIRDS, EDUCATING AT A FALL RAPTOR MIGRATION SITE, STUDYING RHINOCEROS AUKLETS, AND TRACKING BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS. HER FAVORITE PASTIMES INCLUDE WATCHING BUTTERFLIES LAY EGGS AND LADYBUG LARVAE SCURRY AROUND IN HER GARDEN, AND STARTING NATIVE PLANTS FROM SEED, AS WELL AS SCOUTING FOR SNAKES, LIZARDS, AND OTHER CRITTERS. SHE IS THRILLED TO INTERPRET AND OBSERVE THE NATURAL WORLD WITH PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND LOOKS FORWARD TO EXPEDITIONS AND ADVENTURES WITH GREENPLAY THIS SUMMER.

CAMP GUIDE - RHEA STEWART-LAWS IS ANOTHER VETERAN GREENPLAY GUIDE.  RHEA IS A MARIN COUNTY NATIVE, IS A SELF-PROCLAIMED “NATURE FREAK.” SHE DISCOVERED HER PASSION WHILE ATTENDING THE TEAM PROGRAM DURING HIGH SCHOOL AT TAM HIGH, AN EXPERIENCE THAT TAUGHT HER HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WILDERNESS AND TO APPRECIATE THE NATURAL WORLD. AFTER A BRIEF STINT TRAVELING THE GLOBE AND FIVE YEARS STUDYING FASHION DESIGN IN NEW YORK CITY, SHE RETURNED TO MARIN IN ORDER TO PURSUE HER TRUE PASSION – NATURE. WHILE OBTAINING AN AA DEGREE AT COLLEGE OF MARIN IN NATURAL SCIENCE, SHE HONED HER NATURALIST SKILLS, LEARNING HOW TO WATCH BIRDS, TRACK ANIMALS, AND TO SEE NATURE AS AN INTERCONNECTED WEB BETWEEN THE LIVING AND NON-LIVING. IN HER OFF-TIME SHE PREFERS TO SPEND HER DAYS HIKING, BIRDING, CAMPING, CYCLING, SWIMMING, BASICALLY ANYTHING THAT GETS HER OUTSIDE. SOON SHE WILL COMPLETE HER DEGREE IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AT MILLS COLLEGE, WHERE SHE IS CURRENTLY CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON URBAN LAKE ENVIRONMENTS. RHEA PARTICULARLY ENJOYS PROVIDING ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION TO KIDS AND BRINGS OVER FIFTEEN YEARS OF CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE TO GREENPLAY. 

CAMP GUIDE - SOPHIE BRECK JOINED MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP DURING THE SUMMER OF 2015.  SOPHIE IS A SOPHOMORE AT UC DAVIS AND A GRADUATE OF THE BRANSON SCHOOL WHERE SHE PLAYED VARSITY SOCCER AND PRESIDENT OF THE OUTDOORS CLUB.  SHE WORKED IN NATURE EDUCATION PREVIOUSLY AT THE WALKER CREEK OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER AND WITH KIDS AT BRANSON'S SOCCER CAMP AND SURFWORKS.  SOPHIE IS ACTIVE WITH COMMUNITY NONPROFITS AND PLAYS UKULELE.  

GREENPLAY YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM TRAINER - WENDY DALIA JOINS MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP FOR 2016 TO TRAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN LEADERSHIP, TEAMWORK, THE BASICS OF NATURE AWARENESS, GROUP FACILITATION AND COMMUNICATION, AND MORE.  WENDY HAS A DEGREE IN MARINE BIOLOGY FROM LONG ISLAND UNIVERISTY IN SOUTHHAMPTON, NY AND IS THE FORMER DIRECTOR OF CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT THE RICHARDSON BAY AUDUBON CENTER IN TIBURON.  WENDY ENJOYS BACKPACKING WITH HER FAMILY, YOGA, SWIMMING, AND HER LATEST PASSION IS TAE KWON DO.

CAMP GUIDE - NELLIE KNOX JOINS MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP FOR SUMMER 2016.  NELLIE HAS A B.A. IN ECONOMICS AS WELL AS A MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING FROM SMITH COLLEGE.  SHE CURRENTLY TEACHES 1ST GRADE AT THE GREENWOOD SCHOOL IN MILL VALLEY.  NELLIE HAS WORKED IN A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS INCLUDING THE CLASSROOM, SERVICE LEARNING AND OUTDOOR EDUCATION.  IN HER SPARE TIME, NELLIE ENJOYS HIKING, RUNNING AND SWIMMING.

CAMP GUIDE - LILY TAFT JOINS MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP FOR SUMMER OF 2016.  SHE IS A NATIVE OF MILL VALLEY, A GRADUATE WITH HONORS OF TAM HIGH AND A BUSINESS STUDENT AT TULANE UNIVERSITY.  LILY IS AN ACCOMPLISHED ATHLETE AND HAS COMPETED IN SWIMMING AND WATER POLO AND IS A RUNNER AND A SKIER.  SHE HAS LIFEGUARD AND SWIM INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATIONS.  ADDITIONAL PRIOR WORK IN CHILDCARE WITH BABYSITTING CERTIFICATIONS AND CIT WORK AT A SLEEP AWAY CAMP ROUNDS OUT HER QUALIFICATIONS TO ENSURE THAT GREENPLAY CAMPERS HAVE FUN SAFELY IN MARIN'S WILD PLACES.

CAMP GUIDE - ANIKA DONATELLI JOINS MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP FOR SUMMER OF 2016.  SHE IS A NATIVE OF MILL VALLEY AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII. ANIKA HAS PLENTIFUL BABYSITTING EXPERIENCE AS WELL AS WORK AS A LIFEGUARD AT THE HOMESTEAD VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTER AND AT A SPORTS CAMP.  SHE BRINGS LOTS OF ENTHUSIASM TO HER WORK WITH GREENPLAY CAMPERS THIS SUMMER.

OUTDOOR CLIMBING PROGRAM CO-DIRECTORS - ERIK GRIFFITH & HALEY BRISCOE HAVE GUIDED MANY HAPPY CAMPERS WITH MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2015.  ERIK AND HALEY ARE FROM SACRAMENTO WHERE THEY HONED THEIR CLIMBING SKILLS AT PIPEWORKS. ERIK HAS AN AMGA SINGLE PITCH CERTIFICATION, AND BOTH ARE CERTIFIED WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDERS.  WHEN NOT SHOWING OUR CLIMBERS THE LATEST MOVES ON THE ROCKS, ERIK AND HALEY ARE CLIMBING YOSEMITE'S GREAT WALLS.

FOUNDER - JULIE HANFT FOUNDED MARIN GREENPLAY CAMP. A UC CERTIFIED CALIFORNIA NATURALIST, SHE HAS WORKED IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS, CLEAN MILL VALLEY, TREE FROG TREKS, AND THE RICHARDSON BAY AUDUBON CENTER. JULIE HAS A CERTIFICATE IN NATURAL HISTORY AND A CERTIFICATE IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FROM THE COLLEGE OF MARIN, RECEIVED SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING AT DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY AND HAS A B.A. FROM BARNARD COLLEGE AND A J.D. FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI. JULIE IS A MEMBER OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM OF MARIN AND THE FOUNDER OF THE MARIN OPEN GARDEN PROJECT. JULIE RECENTLY BECAME A BOARD MEMBER OF THE TURTLE ISLAND RESTORATION NETWORK/SPAWN AND MARIN CLEAN HIGHWAYS.
